Austrian documentary film that chronicles the work of whistleblower William Binney, a former official of the National Security Agency who resigned shortly after the September 11 attacks.

In September 2002, Binney and two other NSA whistleblowers, J. Kirk Wiebe and Edward Loomis, asked the U.S. Defense Department Inspector General to investigate the NSA for allegedly wasting "millions and millions of dollars" on the Trailblazer Project, which analyzed intercepted data covertly obtained from communications networks. Loomis and Binney had been the inventors of ThinThread, a far less expensive alternative system that was shelved in favor of Trailblazer.

The Nation reported that "despite ThinThread’s proven capacity to collect actionable intelligence, agency director Gen. Michael Hayden vetoed the idea of deploying the system in August 2001, just three weeks before 9/11." Hayden’s decisions, the whistleblowers told The Nation, "left the NSA without a system to analyze the trillions of bits of foreign SIGINT flowing over the Internet at warp speed, as ThinThread could do."

Il y a 3 ans, le 11 janvier 2013, Aaron Swartz se donnait la mort dans son appartement à l'âge de 26 ans.

À 12 ans il crée Info networks qui est une encyclopédie éditée par les internautes. Ça vous rappelle quelque chose ? Oui Info Network est, en quelque sorte l'ancêtre de wikipédia.
À 14 ans il participe à l'écriture du format RSS (aujourd’hui utilisé partout à travers le monde et par la quasi-totalité des sites internet). Puis, en 2005 (18 ans) il cofonde le site communautaire Reddit. En 2007 (20 ans), il devient membre du W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) qui est l'organe de standardisation de l'internet. Il co-écrit également le langage Markdown, travaille sur le projet Tor et participe à l'élaboration d'OpenLibrary (bibliothèque numérique de livres en libre accès).

Son suicide est dû aux poursuites engagées par le gouvernement étasunien dans l'affaire JSTOR (banque d'articles scientifiques) du M.I.T.. Il a téléchargé l'ensemble des articles scientifiques présents sur JSTOR afin de les rendre public, ce qui est à l'opposé de la philosophie actuelle des éditeurs de revues scientifiques.
Une fois ses agissements découverts Swartz rend les disques durs sur lesquels se trouvaient les articles au M.I.T. promettant de ne pas les diffuser. Malgré cela le gouvernement des états-unis continue d'harceler  Aaron Swartz, il encourt 35 ans de réclusion criminelle et 1 millions de dollars d'amende.
Le 11 janvier 2013, il se pend dans son appartement.
